Review: A Note of Scandal

Synopsis:

Especially when it could carry so much good-a new life for a wounded soldier, catharsis after long years of war, and an opportunity for lady composer Olivia Delancey to finally hear her music played in public.

Newspaper publisher Will Marsh refuses to compound the sins of his father's generation by taking money to print propaganda. But with the end of the wars in France and America, he needs something new to drive Londoners to grab his paper first. Why not publish the score of the "Tune That Took Waterloo," by a wounded vet, no less?

As Olivia struggles to keep her secrets from this unsuitably alluring publisher, and Will fights to find the truth without losing his hold on this bright-eyed angel who has descended into his life, both discover another sort of truth.

Being the talk of London can be bad-or very, very good.

Review:

This isn't the typical novel that I read. In fact, I typically read paranormal romance. But, when given the opportunity I decided to step outside of the box and try something new. I am glad I did. This book is a historical romance. I had no idea what to expect, and as I began reading, it was as though I was transported into the past. The author, Nicky Penttila, does a great job telling the story of a woman that is taken advantage of by everyone in her life. Sadly it isn’t just her friends, it’s her family too. I had a hard time in certain parts because I would get so irritated with her situation. The worst part is probably the fact that when she falls in love she has to hide it. I couldn’t imagine having to do something like that. While I was kind of irritated that Olivia continually allowed people to push her around, I did love the relationship between her and Will.

The characters in this book are well rounded and keep you wanting to read more. I actually had the audio version and thought the narrator told the story really well. I do wish she distinguished the characters a little more while reading though. I did find at times I’d have to “rewind” to understand what was going on. This book uses British vocabulary so there were a lot of words I’d have to listen to over again to understand.

If you are looking for a cute story that takes you to a time you never experienced, then I’d recommend this book. Nicky has a way of telling it without it sounding “made-up.” The events that happen seem like they are real. She writes for the time and doesn’t make you stop and think there is no way this could have happened back then. I look forward to reading another book from her.

A Piece of Inspiration

After watching this video, how could you not be inspired? This man had so many things going against him and now he has beat all of the odds thanks to hard work, clean eating, and a zero impact workout program. No, I am not being paid for this and no I didn't receive this program as compensation for writing this. Instead, I am just a girl with a weight problem that has found a program she really likes and wants to share it with others who may have the same problem.

Weight loss is something I am getting very serious about. After a major battle of depression, emotional and boredom eating, and even late night binging I have found myself with a lot of extra weight. I have never been a really super skinny size 2 girl, but I have what I call "me skinny." This is the size that I feel the most comfortable in and I am happy no matter what. And after seeing some recent pictures of myself, I decided it is way past time to get back to that.

My first step has been adding more fruits and veggies into my diet. I have cut out a lot of junk food and processed foods. Now my main focus is eating lean proteins, veggies, fruit, dairy, and whole grains. I am not following a "diet" so-to-say, instead I am making a plan that I can follow the rest of my life. I have done Weight Watchers, Atkins, and several other diets and they have worked. The only problem is I can't live with them and once I am done, I slowly start putting the pound back on. While I do appreciate the principals of these diets, I will use them to mold my own way of healthy living. I am not going to say I'll never eat cake again or anything of the sort, because I know I will and I will enjoy every last bite of it. But, I am saying these delicious foods I love oh so much will go from "all the time foods" to "sometimes foods." My goal is to follow an 80/20 routine where I eat healthy at least 80% of the time.

I also am working out. No I am not currently going to the gym (it's OK to gasp here). Instead, my boyfriend came across this workout plan called DDPYOGA. It is a program by former wrestler Diamond Dallas Page. This workout not the traditional yoga, instead it uses dynamic resistance, yoga poses, and muscle engagement. Dallas says he can jack your heart rate up in just one move, and honestly it is true. I can do what he calls "ignition" and my heart rate will jump to the 120's standing completely still. I have only been doing it a few weeks, but so far my lower back is feeling stronger and doesn't hurt nearly as bad as it did. My knees are feeling stronger and my balance and flexibility are improving. I can't wait to continue this journey! DDP says that it is the only workout he does, and he is in prime physical condition after a lot of injuries also.

So I hope to continue to share my journey with you and my healthy recipes. I hope that I see the results that some of the people on the site have had. I also hope that if anyone is struggling with their weight or physical ailments, they consider doing this program.
